The Annual Fourth of July Party

The Fourth of July is always a big deal, as a norm. What with most people having the day off from work, many folks going out camping, or just getting some much needed chores done at home, people are always busy on this holiday.
And my friends, the Studers', have a party at their house on an annual basis. Two reasons: 1....it's not only the Fourth of July, it's their oldest son's birthday. 2....they just always have a big bash on their driveway and invite most of Omaha (I think!). Anyone that is invited is usually asked to bring a side dish and their lawn chairs. They can also bring their favorite beverage. Scott and Lisa (the Studers') provide a keg but if you don't particularly care for keg beer....you're on your own!
Once it's dark, anyone that brought fireworks is invited to set them off across the street from their house. It's a parking lot for a church so it makes for a perfectly safe place away from the crowd of people to view the show and get in their own "ooohhs and aaahhhs".

So this year was no different. The afternoon started with a birthday party for Logan with cake and ice cream. Then later on, the party in honor of our freedom began. The only difference this year was the lack of people in attendance. Why exactly, no one is sure of. I'm speculating that it could be the ever increasing price of gas and people just chose to stay home. Typically there are so many people milling around that you have a hard time finding a place to put your own lawn chair. This wasn't the case this year. But we didn't let that hinder our fun. It was almost better, actually. And Lisa, who is scheduled to have a C-section on July 10TH didn't mind it either! It gave her more time to sit and relax and visit with each person that was there.
So we watched the fireworks, ate a lot of food, drank some adult beverages and enjoyed the camaraderie.
Stay tuned for news on the birth of Lisa and Scott's 3RD child.....
